About

Foton is not organized. It is inherited. Two generations of one family have spoken in light since 1977 · first in photographs, then in films, now in a festival.

( DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT )

I was raised inside light. My father measured it for a living, in a small studio in Klina, since 1977.

Light is not a metaphor to me. It is an inheritance. I learned every craft of the image with my own hands · the camera, the lamp, the sound, the costume, the set · because no one hands you cinema in a town like ours. You build it.

Foton is built the same way. One hundred cars that were declared dead will be painted by artists into works of art, arranged before one monumental screen, and filled with people. The audience will not sit in front of the art. The audience will sit inside it.

The world belongs to the brave who take action. This festival should not exist. It will.

1977

The Light Begins

Foto Studio Toni opens in Klina. Founder: Ton Kabashi. Motion picture production, portraits, weddings, a town's whole visual memory. A family starts speaking in light.

A GENERATION LATER

Dritëhije Film Production

Dardan Kabashi, son of Ton, founds Dritëhije Film Production. The name means light-shadow. Films are made. Every craft is learned by hand: camera, light, sound, production and costume design.

2026

Foton Film Festival

The inheritance becomes a festival. One hundred decommissioned cars, reborn as painted artworks, face one monumental screen under the September sky of Klina. The first edition of the Foton International Film Festival.
